Mud Flat Toys
Mudflat Toys commenced in August 1996 as the result of an idea developed by two members of the Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly, one of whom has since resigned from the club because of business commitments and the other passed away in 2005.
The concept was to develop a woodworking workshop to enable volunteers, generally Rotarians, to manufacture high quality wooden toys for donation to under-privileged children. This is done mainly through local charities and childrens’ institutions or other organisations dealing with children at risk.
Mudflat Toys operates each Wednesday and Saturday with an average of 7 volunteers engaged in the production of wooden toys for distribution as mentioned above. Toys to the value of about $70,000 have been manufactured and distributed during since commencement of the operation and, during that time, a further $5,000 worth have been sold in the community to help defray running costs.
